New Journaling Prompts: What Got Me Through The Week

black woman journaling on the couch

Every Sunday I share what got me through the week. It gives me a bit of structure as I assess my week and allows me to explore the highs and lows without judgement. This is my week, as it existed. Use these prompts as you may and add your own.

Things I Tasted

Some of my husband’s world-famous ribs with homemade BBQ rub + super sweet corn

Things I Remembered

Just how much work I’ve done in therapy over the past five years. Prepping for a vendor event amidst global shipping delays could have thrown me off my game, but I was calm, cool and collected. Anxiety didn’t take me out!

Things I Craved

A good Sunday nap. And I got it.

Things I Slowed Down For

Giving my son my full attention. This one’s hard because it seems he’s always looking for my full attention and I, a busy working woman, have so many other things to do. But quality time is his love language, just like it’s mine, so it’s an honor to slow down and be intentional about the way I parent him.

Things I Struggled With

For a good chunk of the week? Motivation. I’m in a weird space where the WHAT of my dreams/goals seem clear but the HOW is still fuzzy. It’s been discouraging but I’m determined to ride the waves as long as it takes.

Things I Watched

Returned to season 1 of Modern Love on Prime and fell a little deeper in love with the idea of love. Also caught episode 1 of The Bear on Hulu. Good stuff.

Things I Read

Allure’s “Why Is Exhaustion so Normalized for Black Women?” A quick read and a reminder that many wellness advocates are building a new world where that question won’t be asked any more. I’m proud to be in that number.
